EDITORIAL 4_2008

Christmas is coming faster than you think, but rather under palm trees or in the snow?

Only the year 2008 are not entirely behind us and most of the balance sheets still to come. We are in the Adents-/Weihnachtszeit, then "between the years" and a little later we will do in a very fresh new year plans for the 364 certainly promising still completely unused days from 2009 .

But first do our Canarian-German Christmas? Everything at home in the Canary Islands, but here? Or anything at home in Germany, however, please click the Canary Islands? Or are all very different and a bit of everything ... ?

The German Christmas traditions (Ideal short version) draw with the first long Advent, the Sundays of Advent, the Christmas Markets of all kinds It smells too hard: After cookies, gingerbread, stollen ... Christmas Eve in the culmination of family, church (sofern. ..), the mess, the decorated Christmas tree, the crib, the Weihnachsgeschichte, giving and receiving gifts. Santa Claus, Christ child, Otto-Versand - some question of Where are never fully clarified. Holidays for it: Surely in principle to treat all cases of something (be it relaxation, be it traveling, It is simply having time, either ...). Oh yes, make visits or attendance, let children play contact hours ... Some even sing Christmas carols. In good meal on those days wirs leave at the Christmas goose. There are a thousand times more to eat in D. But goose is geese.

The English, and therefore including the Canary Islands customs show the alien both similarities and differences. plays in the first run, however, slightly intoxicating: Each year starts before Christmas, the English Christmas lottery, the big profit, the thickness, that has the "El Gordo" promises. With the maximum profit of 555 million euros (2007) a rather distracting mess in the truest sense of the word ...

In another run, again better than Christmas, nativity scenes everywhere ("Belén"). Finest architectural and decorative art, artistic, often charming. Expansive surfaces, Canary landscapes inspired. Man parades around in amazement as five by five meters. Illuminated, they are often, of course. English Christmas carols, villancicos, apart from the known in Germany
"O Tannenbaum" (in Spain, "" El Albeto ") heard everywhere, giving it easier for German ears surprisingly cheerful and often rhythmic.

The evening of 24.12. "Noche Buena", is the whole great family, good food and drink, good friends, relatives and acquaintances. At midnight it goes to the fair. Noche Buena is traditionally less dedicated to giving. For the "real" gifts the Magi bring until 6 January. But the northern Santa has carved out some time the market, children's and parents' hearts and wallets. As very American type of Santa Claus we see him, "Papá Noel" called away sparkle in bold, alluring, climbing or carriage flying scenes over the seven islands. Then come therefore, from the gifts already a hiding out or two surprises before the deadline. " Finally, holidays are also to play there. The youth, however, falls on the same evening in many areas in heavy party atmosphere and attracts them. Disco night on Christmas Eve? ! Sí, Señor! Then the real Christmas, "Navidad," a holiday with all the good that we continue can enjoy with gratitude ...

We skip the year (but come on New Year's edition of our Editorial guaranteed return on it) to lead the Christmas story to a happy ending. Already on the evening of 5 January is attracted by the Three Kings in Canary cities, towns and villages, "Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos," a respekterheischender train of kings riding on camels. Advance the children have had to do something: Prepare shoes, put in hay, lay on the window sill fresh herbs and grass, turn the corner, yet quickly a bucket of water, do not forget ... And all that just to make it the royal transport animals from windows and let go as well and stay and get the chances to be invited Gifts powerful. As a consolation, it's like everywhere: only he who was good, you get gifts. Those who do not get followed some lump of coal, sweet (dulce unas bolas de carbón).
